How to use a website template: a beginner’s guide

Learn how to use a website template with AI or Framer, replace the sample content, and check your first page before publishing.

This guide uses Veronica G Templates as the example, it walks through the AI-building route not the Framer visual editor.

Still deciding on a design? Start with how to choose a website template.

1. Get your files together

For a purchased template, sign in to My account with the email you used at checkout. Find the template under Your purchases and select Download files for AI.

Your package will include page prompts, a matching theme, imagery guidance, Framer remix link and code source files. Framer will have a remix link that you can use in your Framer tool. To generate images you can find the image prompts in the theme folder within the zip file.

2. Choose one way to build

Using an AI tool: Start a project and upload the entire zip file, your AI tool should be able to decipher it and this will provide it with full context.

Using Framer: Find your Framer Remix link in My account then click on Open in Framer. Follow the remix flow to create your own copy, then replace the content in the visual editor.

You do not need to combine both routes. Choose the one you are comfortable working in.

The zip files include a Theme file and image prompts. The Theme file will allow you to build out other pages that look visually consistent and the image prompts will allow you to generate images in a similar look and feel.

3. Build one page first

Let's start with the homepage.

Using an AI tool: Gather your business name, a short description, the target audience, and the action you want visitors to take. This will provide your AI with some context.

Use this message alongside the included page prompt:

Build the homepage using the attached template prompt and matching theme. My business is [name]. We help [target audience] with [product or service]. The main action is [book a call / make an enquiry / browse products]. Keep the template’s layout, type hierarchy, spacing, and visual character. Replace the sample content with the copy attached.

Using Framer: Plug in your copy and images manually or through the AI Agent on the right panel.

4. Review and refine

Review the page and refine where you see fit. Try to go page by page and section by section so that the AI tool doesn't get confused. Best practice is to separate each page into separate chats windows to prevent context contamination.

A useful request names the part of the page, the change, and what should stay:

In the homepage’s services section, replace the three sample services with [your services]. Keep the existing card layout, fonts, colours, and button style. Remove the icons as this is not necessary.

5. Keep new pages connected

Use the same project and theme when building the next page. Describe what the page needs to do and ask the tool to reuse your existing navigation, buttons, typography, and spacing.

Your final check

  • Replace sample names, images, offers, and contact details.
  • Check that long headings and real content fit on a phone.
  • Open every navigation link and try the main action.
  • Keep the matching theme available for future pages.
  • Work through the website launch checklist before publishing.
