Website template vs theme: which should you choose?

Compare website templates and themes. Build with a ready-made page structure or build with design rules to make consistent looking pages.

A website template gives you a particular page structure and design to build from. A website theme gives you visual rules to create your own pages. Choose a template when its layout fits your content, or a theme when you want the look with a different layout. This guide compares the design guidelines and templates available from Veronica G.

Choose a template when you like the layout already

A template is a good fit when you can look at the preview and say, “My business would work in this.” You only need to replace the words and images, adapt a few sections and you're done.

When reviewing the website templates, can you see a place for your business offer, process, and next steps? Are you comfortable with the included pages and build options?

Choose a theme when you want more freedom

A theme provides a design system and image prompts. The design system describes the colours, typography, spacing, layout principles, and motion that make the direction feel connected. And the image prompts help you create matching imagery.

Themes are useful when you want that visual character but need a different page structure, or when you want to bring a more consistent direction to an existing site.

You still decide which pages and sections to build. Give your AI tool the Theme and explain the job of each page. Build one page first so you can review the result before continuing.

If you have never built with AI before

Choose the route with fewer decisions left to make.

If you like an existing Template’s structure, its included page prompts give you a concrete place to begin. If you already know the pages and layout you want, a Theme lets you describe that structure while keeping the design consistent.

You may already have the theme you need

Every current Veronica G template includes its matching theme. Check your package before buying the same theme separately. You can use the template for the included pages, then use its theme to guide additional pages.

A separately purchased theme is for someone who wants the design direction without that template’s full package.

A quick decision check

  • I like this exact page structure: start with the Template.
  • I like the look but want a different layout: start with the Theme.
  • I own the Template and need another page: use its included Theme.
  • I’m still unsure: write down your essential pages, then compare them with what the template includes.

Once you’ve chosen, follow the template guide or the theme guide.
